Local Eats: Oatmeal Cookies Are Better Left Unbrewed
Spiced raisin purée is cancelled.

Earlier this month, Maman, the New York-based French café, released a limited edition “Oatmeal Cookie Latte” in collaboration with Man Repeller. As reported in Vogue, this spin on a beloved oat milk latte contains a spiced raisin puree to create an oatmeal cookie illusion. Compelled by my Secret Starbucks menu nostalgia and my affinity for oatmeal raisin cookies, I had to give the beverage a try.
My suitemate and I made our way down to SoHo on Saturday and were quickly met with a line out the door. After a short five minutes, I ordered my latte and waited in the cramped pick up area with all the other trend-driven, upper-middle-class Man Repeller readers.
At a glance, the drink looks like any other latte, with one exception: there’s cookie crumble on top of the oat milk foam. Upon my first sip, the latte was lukewarm and a bit odd. It tasted like any other espresso drink. Rather than a spiced raisin puree, the special addition tastes more like raisin skins that have been floating in milk. As I kept drinking, it became straight-up cold. By the end, it tasted like a forgotten morning coffee just being finished around lunchtime. Today, I am still haunted by the never-ending assembly line of raisin bits that seemed to multiply the more I drank.

Overall, I wasn’t that impressed with this drink. I would have been just as happy with a raisin-less oat latte made at home. I’m a lover of all things Man Repeller and even more excited about special edition products, but this one missed the mark. I say save the $6 and drink your coffee at home. (Note: if you go, make sure to get there early, they sell out quick!)
The Oatmeal Cookie Latte is sold in all Maman locations Sept. 6–30. The drink is $5.25-$5.75.
