A few months back we reported that NYU professor and artist Wafaa Bilal was having a camera installed in the back of his head as part of the 3rdI installation for Qatar’s Museum of Modern Art. Bilal’s body has since rejected one of the posts that supported the camera. On Friday, Bilal had surgery to remove the rejected post (yikes!) and temporarily removed the camera. He retained the other two posts that were initially implanted.

The 3rdI installation was commissioned for one year and Bilal seems adamant about continuing his project. The camera is now temporarily tied to the back of his neck. It is reported that he hopes to find a lighter camera that the two remaining posts can support.

Until Bilal learns his lesson, you can still watch the stream of images from his camera at the 3rdI website. That is, as long as there’s a wifi connection, which means if you’re in one of the dorms that still lacks wireless, don’t be afraid to invite him over and hit that aforementioned bong with Bilal.
