The NYU Entrepreneurial Institute is hosting Phase I of the Healthcare Makerthon on Thursday at Langone Medical Center.

The Healthcare Makerthon, which began in 2015, aims to foster cross-school collaboration and find solutions for current needs in the healthcare and biomedical fields. Last year’s winners of the Makerthon went on to win the annual NYU-Yale Pitchoff with their company Levitas, which is developing wearable devices that prevent falls in hospital patients.

Phase I of the Makerthon is the teammate hunt and challenge announcement. At this event, participants will learn the healthcare innovation challenges as well as meet other members of the NYU community and form multidisciplinary teams to work with during Phase II, which occurs Oct. 6–8.

Robin Gelburd — the president of FAIR Health, a non-profit company which manages the largest database of privately billed health insurance claims — will speak at the event on Thursday. President Andrew Hamilton will be the lead speaker at the Makerthon Weekend.

Winning teams will be selected during Phase II and given a total of $10,000.
