For the last installment of New York Times photographer Damon Winter’s photo journal Lens Series, the New York Times blogs have highlighted the quirky male and female characters from Yvette Helin’s Pedestrian Project, a performance art work that happens every summer throughout the city Dark reel download. I haven’t encountered any of the “peds,” as they are called, but they must be such a sight to see walking down a street with their shapely black (or in this case, colorful) costumes.

Do check out the Lens Series online before it ends. Damon Winter, I believe, is one of the most versatile photographers of the Times. He is also the busiest. In the beginning of the year, he was following Obama, Clinton, and McCain during the campaign; then in the summer, he was sent to the Olympics. In this photo journal, he combines two different shots and make them seem like natural extensions of each other, bringing two unlike facets of New York City onto a single canvas.
