A Love Letter to NYU Alum Gina Rodriguez, Filming in WSP

Gina, we’re both Tisch alums! Let’s hang out sometime! My birthday is in two weeks?!

I first knew something was up while I was taking the long way to work through the park. There were cameras, lights, and sweaty crew men hanging around the WSP fountain, clearly waiting to start filming something. Nothing out of the ordinary for our celebrity infested park.

But then, hours later, I checked my freshman year roommate’s Snapchat story and there you were. Smiling, taking pictures with fans, and even posing with my old roommate. Turns out you were filming scenes with Lakeith Stanfield for your upcoming movie, Someone Great.

Love how we all just accept that a public park is NYU’s campus now. It’s not, but that is not what NYU would like us all to believe.

Of course, the first thing I felt was sadness. If only I had stopped to ask those sweaty crew men what they were filming like I had thought about doing. If only I didn’t have to work on Thursday afternoons. If only I had been walking through the park three hours later, then my freshman year roommate would’ve been seeing you on my Snapchat story instead.

But alas, none of that happened and we stay parted for now. I didn’t get to talk to you about your upcoming projects or how #TeamMichael is so much more valid than #TeamRafael (boo). We didn’t swap FilmBoy Tisch stories or reminisce on our favorite long gone Greenwich Village spots (RIP Famiglia’s).

But at least I know you’re still visiting your old stomping grounds. So here’s to another time, maybe the same place.
