A Brief Note To The Grammys

We know what you’re doing, Grammys. For the fourth year in a row, the Urban Contemporary category is all black people. When Ivan Barias brought black artists together to create the Urban Contemporary category, it was a mission to reclaim their stake in the most prestigious music award show in the world.

However, using the Urban Contemporary category to satiate talented black musicians is unacceptable. Beyoncé, Frank Ocean, Rihanna and many more deserve to receive awards outside of the “black” categories you’ve created. Segregating black pop artists while white ones with R&B influenced albums are just Pop is exclusive and ignorant. Don’t do us like that.

One clap, two clap, three clap, forty?

By clapping more or less, you can signal to us which stories really stand out.
