After watching the video footage of peaceful female protestors from the Occupy Wall Street movement being kettled and then pepper sprayed, you’re probably feeling sick to your stomach and pretty outraged. Irene Wreaks More Havok: Concert Cancellations Stir Frustration in Long Beach

 Quiksilver Pro, advertised as the first major surf contest and festival in the New York area, was expected to be a top destination this Labor Day weekend. With concerts by headliners like the Flaming Lips, Interpol and Matt and Kim, plus skate and BMX competitions, the city of Long Beach was expecting over 200,000 to turn out for the the first weekend alone.

Now, the Long Beach community is clinging to the hope that those crowds will still make the trek after Quiksilver canceled concert and festival portions of the event due to concerns about damage done in the wake of Hurricane Irene. Read more…
