Obama Champions Uncensored Internet in China
Pleasing both civil libertarians and nerds alike, President Obama told a town hall in Shanghai packed with Chinese youths that an uncensored internet is a good thing. He called access to information “a universal right,” that should be available indiscriminately, “because then citizens of countries around the world can hold their own governments accountable, they can begin to think for themselves.” Not exactly the best sales pitch to the Chinese government, but I hope it got the general population there thinking.
Granted, the “Great Firewall of China” will not tumble just because Obama says he hopes it will, but it took balls to highlight China’s horrendous record on censorship while actually visiting the country and speaking to the age demographic most inclined to rebellion. (Perhaps this defiant move in China will appease neocons after bow-gate in Japan.)
Also, revelation: Obama has “never used Twitter”? Despite that fact, he certainly does well for himself on the medium with his 2,668,863 followers.

Gratuitous Pictures of President Obama Doing Cute Things
It’s been a rough week for the NYU community, so let’s attempt to remember the lovelier side of life with a little G rated Presidential pornography. The White House Flickr stream hosts an epic collection of photos of our outrageously photogenic First Family, and it never fails to leave me swooning. Below is a gallery of some of the most “awwww!”-inducing photos. Babies and puppies!

Obama in NYC Today
According to the New York Post, President Obama will be in NYC once again today. This time, however, it’s not for a bromantic date in the Village with a former president.
Instead, thy Nobel Obama will venture downtown to personally thank “FBI-NYPD joint terrorism task force for their work in the arrest of airport-shuttle driver Najibullah Zazi,” the Afghan immigrant indicted for planning to bomb locations in Denver.
Obama is scheduled to meet the forces at the FBI Headquarters near City Hall (26 Federal Plaza). Also, according to Gothamist, the President will stop at the Time Warner Center at Columbus Circle for reasons currently unknown. We’re guessing the guy just needs his Whole Foods sushi fix.
Update: According to commenter Jordan Budd and the New York Times, Obama will be speaking at an Organizing for America event at Hammerstein Ballroom (34th & 8th) tonight.

Obama and Clinton Lunch Date Behind Kimmel

President Obama dined with Bill Clinton at a restaurant on W.3rd and Thompson, between roughly 1.30 and 2.30pm today. Police barricaded off street access from Bleeker to Washington Square South between LaGuardia and Sullivan. I believe the SUV in the middle-right of the photo above was the vehicle either Obama or Clinton was traveling in. Police began removing the metal barricades after the SUVs vacated the area. The police on location wouldn’t answer questions about the lunch date, except confirm when Obama and Clinton were gone.
More photos after the jump.

Obama and Clinton Dine in the West Village
A huge portion of the West Village, right near Kimmel, is currently blocked off so that none other than President Obama (reportedly along with former President Clinton) can enjoy a lovely meal at Il Mulino on W. 3rd and Thompson. Daily Editor Suri is currently on location and tweeted to say that he JUST left the area. Thanks to @ninanyc for the heads up. NYULocal Publisher Cody Brown took the pic below from his apartment window. Interviews with policemen plus more pictures hopefully to come.
