Welcome to the City Section!

We all know that, like Writing the Essay and sleepless anguish, NYU and New York City have always been inextricably linked. Nowadays especially, in a time of our university’s unyielding expansion, it’s becoming increasingly difficult to separate the two. We may have more cockroaches in our drawers and see more drug-dealing hobos on our way to class than students at other schools, but being here gives us the good fortune of experiencing a college life beyond frat parties and football rallies.

That’s what NYU Local’s new City Section is for; we will not only bring you news of upcoming events in New York, but we’ll cover the beautiful, the ugly, the quirky and the filthy aspects of the city, from street art to politics, good eats to nightlife.

Most importantly, we invite you, readers, to contribute by sending us story ideas at tips@nyulocal.com for interesting things that we miss, or photos you take of all the things that go on in the city that make living here so fascinating, depressing, and spectacular. Lots of things happen beyond Washington Square Park, and if it’s worth reporting, we want it to be reported, whether by us or by you.

So welcome, friends, to the city, and welcome to the City Section.
