James Franco Wants A Ph.D, and Maybe A Little Compassion

james_francoI’m sorry women (and men, really) of NYU, but it appears that James Franco has little interest in furthering his storied education beyond master status at our glorious institution of higher learning. Instead, having  dozed off in all the lectures he cares to nap through in New York, he has set his Ph.D sights on Yale, where the female population doesn’t have to pretend to be blasé about his awesomeness.

After what must have been a rousing talk last Thursday at one of Yale’s Berkeley College Master’s Teas, Franco told The Yale Daily News that he’ll be applying to Ph.D programs next year and he’s interested in Yale. We know that NYU’s only real celebrity student is a fan of Yale heavyweight Prof. Harold Bloom, having sat in on one of the author’s lectures last year. But while some might argue that being BFFLs with Bloom and the prestige of Yale make it a logical choice for Franco, we fear that his fleeing New York may be due to causes far more sinister. He was, after all, offended at Columbia’s Butler Library last week, practically forcing him to study all alone elsewhere. Continue…

Is James Franco in Queer Cinema 101?

james franco in milkA tipster reports that James Franco is taking Queer Cinema, an undergraduate course in the Tisch Cinema Studies department. Franco was said to have set off a mild frenzy when he showed up at the department floor. (Surprising, seeing as NYU students usually try to play it cool with, “Haley Joel Osmont? He’s actually a really sweet guy… I smoked with him once.”) His name is on the roster as James Edward Franco, though we’re told he already missed his first class. Franco – get it together.

James Franco Reps Both NYU and Columbia– Finally

113Bless New York Magazine for their optimistic covers week after week. This week’s feature issue compiles stories from characters that are New York fixtures (or new New Yorkers) who talk about their experiences moving into the city, while also highlighting the fact that the failing economy has actually motivated more people to move to the city because they no longer have jobs to tie them to their (less superior) city.

Some of these famous individuals’ stories are hilarious, like Lauren Hutton getting here in 1964 “to get to Africa and find LSD”; Andy Samberg’s eerily-prophetic account of post-graduation living situations ; Amy Sedaris’s first sight of a man shitting in public (I saw that two weeks ago– it was disconcerting.) Also notable is James Franco not snubbing NYU and acknowledging that he attends both Tisch and Columbia. Whew, about time.

James Franco Doesn’t Sleep in Beds

NYU pride and glory James Franco was spotted snoozing last night by our very own, enterprising NYU Local writers doing serious journalism (read: drinking PepsiMax) in Bobst.

Gawker also has the picture on the left – taken by some lucky Columbia student – showing Mr. Franco making good use of his time in a lecture.

Too bad no one caught a photo of him in Bobst – maybe then he’d finally admit that he actually goes to NYU too.

But now that Alexis Bledel and Blair Waldorf are (probably) attending NYU as well, we can begin to try to forget about our slipping B-school rankings and pretend that we go to a university of some prominence.
