NYU Slashes Bus Services
In addition to the loss of free printing, it seems NYU is cutting costs by scratching out another beloved service to students – a sensible bus service.
Washington Square News reports that the five bus routes formerly in operation have been reduced to two, and NYU has not yet mustered up the guts to make a formal announcement.
According to the WSN article, routes A, C and D have disappeared. Route B that used to cover just the dorms in SoHo now caters to Greenwich Hotel. Route E doesn’t go to Union Square anymore, but does make a stop by 1st Ave. and 12th Street. If you live at the 13th Street dorm it is actually quicker to walk home from campus than anywhere on the new transportation map, which incidentally has not been updated yet.

The Demise of Free Printing At NYU
Free printing labs are a thing of the past at NYU, where a single sheet now costs 10 cents at the formerly free labs.
But never fear, “ITS Print Service is an easy-to-use two-step process,” says the ITS website. All you have have to do now is enter your net ID, swipe your ID card at a printer after waiting in line behind several similarly frustrated students, print your document and watch as $2.50 is deducted from your account for an absurdly long reading you didn’t really want to do anyway! What fun.
Before you start burning this mofo down though, keep in mind that you get a $50 ITS credit per semester. (That’s enough to print 500 pages, for those of you who aren’t so into the math thing.) Continue…

NYU Bus Drivers Protest Outside Tisch
A group of NYU bus drivers are picketing outside of Tisch right now, fed up with their treatment by Coach USA. It seems like that strike we heard about a few weeks back may actually be on its way.
Protestor Andy Sydor balked at Coach USA’s proposed new contract for drivers, saying “they have basically slammed down the final offer of a contract with a lot of paycuts for a lot of the members, saying, take this or we’ll fire you.” The “this” Sydor’s referring to is a pretty legit lack of job security and no guarantee as far as how many hours drivers will be able to work. Cleaning NYU Toilets No Longer Heavy on Perks
For anyone without a puke and feces fetish, a college custodial job isn’t The American Dream. The upcoming October 27 switch from NYU Management of the University’s custodians to management by CBS, an outside firm, brings with it yet another reason to avoid a job involving jumpsuits and Sunday mornings spent cleaning vodka-scented vomit from hallway floors.
Current janitors won’t lose their jobs or benefits but all future “custodial workers” (talk about the most PC term ever) won’t receive the tuition remitance benefits currently in place. Seems like a pretty hypocritical move for an institution that claims to be “A Private University in the Public Service.”
John Beckman, NYU’s VP of Public Affairs, says the school-wide cuts aim to redirect $25million in administrative fees towards as-yet unspecified academic programs. This specific change means that NYU won’t have to fill custodial admin positions, freeing up some cash for more important things. Like John Sexton’s flights to and from Abu Dhabi every other weekend.
