Students’ Obliviousness to 9/11 Anniversary Points to Greater Issue

On Sept. 11, 2001, New York City suffered one of the worst terrorist attacks in recorded history, when two planes struck the World Trade Center towers, bringing the colossal buildings down in a cloud of smoldering panic.
Seven years later, we commemorate the anniversary of this tragic event, remembering those we lost and celebrating the heroes that put the lives of others before their own. But after seven anniversaries and countless ceremonies, NYU students are demonstrating an increasingly apparent numbness to the city’s various attempts to re-invoke the emotions that every American felt on that fateful day seven years ago.
