The lack of community, insanely high costs, and non-existent campus atmosphere all don’t hold a candle to Albert, which is without a doubt the worst part of going to NYU. Well it seems that Albert is having a terrible, horrible, no good, very bad first day back to school. It’s been offline for most of the morning which has surely left a few students wandering around without a clue of where any of their classes are.
NYU ITS is currently trying to fix the problem and has been providing live updates throughout the morning. They’ve also just posted a listing of every class happening today.
But how do you find your classes if the course listings are down? You’re going to have to do things the old fashioned way and pick up the damn phone.
We just called the office of the university registrar and a representative there told us that people have been calling in all morning to find out where the they need to be. The office’s number is (212) 998-4800. The registrar worker sounded exhausted and said she was working off of printed spreadsheets to find people’s classes, so be patient and courteous! Also, having your course numbers at hand will speed up the process. Go to the bookstore’s website and get all of your course numbers off of the book search feature.
You can also ring up the specific department that your classes are listed under. This is probably your best bet today.
There’s no shame in running to every single classroom in every building of NYU screaming “GOTHIC MELANCHOLY LITERATURE!?” and crying or just sitting in the Silver Center lobby and hoping you see a teacher. Like not even your teacher. Just any teacher. Fuck it all, don’t go to class today.
Whatever you do, just don’t email your professor asking where your class is. You’ll look like a total rookie. Be resourceful and make a good first impression. Carpe Diem, don’t be a basic bitch.
A special shoutout to Shanna Williams in the English Department who emailed her department’s majors with a list of every single English class going on today and where it can be found. That’s the stuff of heroes. We love you Shanna.

YEAH SHANNA!! LOVE YA
THANK YOU!!! I was just about to email my professor and then I read this, realized that would not be the best first impression, and called the department directly. I had my answer in under a minute!!
Shanna Williams is a godsend.

Great article, but one comment: Under circumstances like these, students who are having trouble
finding a class should not hesitate to email their professors. We’re being paid a nice salary, and getting information to our students is part of the job. Any professor who held it against a student that they
sent such an email would be a jerk. Of course, first try to find the information on the department
web site or on the professor’s own web site.

As an English major, I didn’t realize not all departments sent out a list of today’s classes and their locations. Way to go, Shanna!
nyulocal keeping it absolutely positive by posting this. Thanks for making the first day, less of a stress y’all
