The Local Sounds concert to showcase the musicians that we have been profiling all semester went down last night, bringing all types together over some outstanding live music. The event at Muchmore’s in Williamsburg reached full capacity and everyone celebrated our university’s amazing artists under one roof.
Local documented the event with photos and video, proving on camera that NYU can foster community. See more photos after the jump.
The dudes from Ch!nch!lla kickstarted the night with a set of their highly danceable, devilishly funky jams that got limbs moving. The set marked a beautiful start to the night.
The elegantly hype-as-fuck Ms. Niambi tested the limits of stage capacity, bringing eight band members together for an hour’s worth of high-flying soul.
After that, the boys from The Pluto Moons upped the rowdy meter with some lovingly in-your-face punk magic. Singer Zach Levine-Caleb even climbed on an amp at one point and jumped, in one of the more badass music moments we’ve witnessed in a while.
Then for the finalé, the magnanimous Topaz Jones and his five-piece band ran through an electrified set of boom bap rap gone bombastic to cap the night off.
Last but not least, the always lovely and nice-smelling WildKatz was spinning nothing but party classics in between sets all night long.
Thanks to everyone who came out! And thank you to both Muchmore’s and all the acts who performed. We couldn’t have done it without your help. We’ll see you at the next one in 2k13!
