Looks like someone will be trading in her Olympic torch for one that’s a little more purple. Gold medalist and generally awesome person Nastia Liukin is scheduled to attend New York University this spring.
The 23-year-old Russian-American gymnast is rumored to be entering the Tisch Center for Hospitality, Tourism, and Sports Management to study Sports Management. Though celebrities have promised NYU attendance have ditched last minute (we’re looking at you, Miranda Cosgrove!), with Nastia’s tweets and NYU-related press, things are starting to confirm that she’ll actually show up.
Nastia Liukin participated in the US Women’s Gymnastic team in the Beijing 2008 Olympics. She won the women’s individual all-around gold medal, a silver on uneven bars, a bronze on floor exercise, a silver on balance beam, and shared a silver with the US team. In the qualifiers for London this last summer, she did not qualify.
Besides all sports management majors dreading to have a discussion-based class in fear of Nastia’s mentioning the five Olympic medals from Beijing, Liukin will join the ranks of other famous classmates, including the Sprouse twins and Dakota Fanning. Not only will she be spotted around campus; sources expect a huge rise in slicked-back ponytails from students in the coming months. “She’s, like, one of three people in the world who can pull off the high pony and rock it,” said one student.
We’re looking forward to seeing her around, and she’ll probably need a couple extracurriculars. Now dismount and stick the landing! Smile and wave! Go hive-five all of your teammates. Bet she won’t get sick of any of those jokes. Right?
