NYU has cancelled all classes and activities for tomorrow, Wednesday, October 31 due to the storm. This just in from Jules Martin, VP for Global Security and Crisis Management:
Because of how crucial ConEd is to our facilities, we are in touch with them to determine whether we will restore classes and activities on Thursday and Friday. We will announce a decision on this later today.
Please note that the Student Health Center will be temporarily relocated with reduced walk-in services from 1:00-5:00pm ET today, Oct. 30, at the Kimmel Center, room 210.
UPDATE [1:40 PM]: Goddard and Weinstein, which run on power from NYU’s cogeneration plant, are the only dorms with complete power. Palladium, University Hall, Founders and Third North have what’s being called ‘life support’ power, meaning hallway and stairwell lights are on, but little else. The rest of the residence halls are still completely without power. Heat is functional, however.
Food is being served at Kimmel, and Weinstein is also open for meals, but Lina Dorkhman tells us lines are long. Brett Chamberlin says Downstein is open, and Upstein is closed except for seating. We’ll update you when we know more.
If you’re looking for wifi or a place to charge your phone, head to Kimmel. Bobst has also opened charging stations, pictured below.

[UPDATE 6:40] NYU is now telling residents of specific residence halls that they will need to evacuate their rooms at 3:00 PM tomorrow. We have confirmed that this applies to Brittany, Hayden, Rubin, Coral, and Carlyle. Residents are allowed to stay in their rooms tonight, but by tomorrow at 3 they must relocate to Kimmel, or stay at a friend’s apartment if they prefer. On following days, beginning Thursday, the dorms will be open from 9:00 am to 3:00 pm for residents to return to their rooms, but the building must be emptied again by 3pm each day. We’ll continue to bring you updates on this developing situation.
[UPDATE 7:04] NYU has decided to cancel classes for the rest of week. Via an email from John Sexton:
The NYU’s Deans and Directors and I met today, and based upon the best information we have available, we have decided that the most prudent course of action is to announce now that we will cancel classes for Thursday, Friday and Saturday (the one exception may be the College of Dentistry, which will be closed tomorrow, Wednesday, but — because of their patient and clinical education responsibilities — will evaluate the days that follow on a day-by-day basis). We anticipate being able to resume our normal academic schedule and activities on Monday, November 5.
