To help me get my apartment, my parents (guarantors) needed more paperwork than they needed to buy their house. Some apartments only need the application, the deposit, ID and proof of income. For mine, my parents needed to have all of that, plus tax returns, letters from their employers, and a few other things. If the place is worth it, then the trouble of getting the other stuff is worth it. Also be prepared to have a lot more documentation than you originally thought you’d need.
