Street Affairs: Chris and Vivienne — On Ice, Relationships and Horror

Chris Saccaro and Vivienne Vaughn @ Wollman Rink, Central Park

All the usual suspects were at IRHC’s annual Flurry at Wollman Rink in Central Park on Tuesday night: determined rookies whose butt cheeks graze the ice more often than their feet, the girl in the center who actually owns her own pair of white skates and is drawing figure 8s, both oblivious and totally aware of the small crowd that’s now formed around her, the smart amateurs who’ve given up after a few falls to find balance and moral support by the sidelines instead. And of course, the obnoxiously cute couples who seem so happy and that one would, just as happily, consider third-wheeling.

For instance, couples like Vivienne and Chris — both sophomore transfer students studying Film and TV at Tisch — in matching varsity jackets. They met in class. They both love horror films. This is too much:

Am I safe to assume you two are a couple?

Chris: Ummm… kind of. Are we?

Vivienne: Mmmm… yeah, yeah, we are.

Okay then, let’s just say you two are almost official for now. Have either of you heard of NYU Local?

Chris: Hey… are you the ones who do the dorm posts? [Yup!]

Vivienne: Oh! I follow you guys on Twitter! [Score.]

So wow, a NYU couple… I guess you guys do exist. You see, I’m hoping to get a boyfriend for Christmas. Any advice on where can I find one? Well, Vivienne, where did you get yours?

Vivienne: Awww, good luck! We actually met this past summer in Sight and Sound, Tisch’s summer intensive for transfer students.

You two are both transfer students, how do you like it so far?

Vivienne: I integrated fine. I love the school, I love the people, I love Tisch. I’m really enjoying it.

And the two of you met just like that? In Sight and Sound?

Vivienne: Yeah, through these comment cards we have to fill out in class.

Comment cards?

Vivienne: In Sight and Sound, we give each other feedback on our works through these cards. I loved Chris’ work and always wrote him comments about his films.

Chris: We’re both really into horror films. When I found out that she was into horror films too, that was the first time when I was like ‘oh I really have to get to know this girl.’ She was my biggest fan… and I loved her stuff too. There’s one where she ate someone! …or did someone eat you?… Anyway, she used condoms as intestines! Wait, I don’t know if you want to include that.

Why not? Did you really use condoms as intestines?

Vivienne: Yeah.

Just curious, how come neither of you sound too sure whether or not you guys are officially in a relationship? Not that you have to be.

Vivienne: Well, I guess it’s more that we aren’t sure if we really want to be public about it yet, or certain people knowing… but we are in a relationship.

Chris: … and we’re Facebook official.

Hah. That’s a heck lot more official than a lot of other couples out there… congrats.

Chris: Ha ha ha. Thanks. We might be official official sometime soon, though.

Alright. Last one for the night, do either of you have websites? You both seem into film and photography, perhaps a portfolio? I’m basically just trying to give you guys free publicity.

Vivienne: I don’t, but Chris does!
