Suite Life twins are all well and good (we guess), but the Class of 2015′s starpower was just boosted significantly. Dakota Fanning was accepted Early Decision and was seen touring Gallatin last spring, and now we can confirm that the talented young actress is an enrolled freshman.We were messing around in the new NYU Gmail system (because why not) and saw that her name and Net ID are in the autocomplete directory.
As we explained, our email addresses are now fully public to anyone with an NYU account. The new autocomplete directory in the ‘to’ box and the gchat search box means you can find any member of the NYU community using their first and last names. Want to gchat Spike Lee to see what he thinks of your Sight and Sound project? Now you can. We are not suggesting you should.
Though it is not made immediately clear, you can opt out of the directory. Fanning and Spike probably didn’t realize that, and we don’t blame them. You can learn more about how to opt out on NYU’s FERPA compliance page.
Anyway, Dakota, welcome to NYU! Enjoy your welcome week! And we know coming up with a Gallatin concentration can be tough, so here’s a few to think about.

Dakota Fanning… amazing, smart, beautiful, multi-talent and down to earth. She is one of the young artist hollywood, which is very worthy to be a role model for young people in this era.
way to respect her privacy. it’s great that she chose nyu but i thought that with the experience we students had with other celebrities enrolling in our school, we’d be over it and a lot more mature about it. welcome dakota, not all of us are douchebags who plan to stalk your every move.
So when her professors call names on the first day of class, are they going to pretend they don’t know her and say “Hannah”?
