Noam Chomsky To Speak At NYU Tonight

Tonight, legendary philosopher Noam Chomsky will be discussing linguistics and nueroscience at the NYU Abu Dhabi Research Institute (19 Washington Square North) at  6:30 p.m. The official title of the lecture is “Poverty of Stimulus: Unfinished Business” and will explore “how the ability to use natural language is implemented in the brain.” To RSVP, email 19wsn.rsvp@nyu.edu.

According to the NYUAD website, “while most of the existing research in this area is based on English language study, the laboratory’s location in Abu Dhabi provides researchers access to speakers of Arabic and other regional languages.” Oh, so that’s where all that money is going!

Though he’s most often associated with his political activism, Chomsky, a linguistics professor at MIT, is also considered one of the leading voices in contemporary linguistics philosophy.

Welcome back to NYU! Now go listen to some high-profile speaker lecture on an otherwise boring subject.

Is it for NYU students only?

Can’t NYU just email us about these things a few days in advance, instead of assuming we’ll catch an NYU Local piece about it 9 hours beforehand? It was the first day of classes….sheesh.
