Earlier this week, The Ability Project produced this video titled “Surviving Freshman Year,” which asks NYU students for advice on how to not want to drop out after completing Writing the Essay. While most of the tips are platitudes your high school counselor once told you — make friends, manage your time, chillax! – the video does offer some truthful words of wisdom given from NYU students who actually seem to go here (unlike some NYU-for-dummies videos). So, watch the video. You might just learn that dating someone in your dorm is a terrible idea. Crazy, right?
But most importantly, does that Asian guy really have a British accent? Please offer me some tips on how to pull that off.

The one girl who said to NOT phone home when you’re feeling homesick is WRONG! You probably shouldn’t phone home every single time you feel an ounce of homesickness, but seriously, staying connected with your home life is really important when you’re at school far away or even not so far away. And if it makes you depressed, it’s because you’re not balancing those relationships with your new ones at college. You should never just kick old relationships to the curb in favor of living it up in a new city/school, which is what she seemed to be saying…

Oh, the kid who friended EVERYONE before freshman year.
Every junior must be thinking of the same exact person on that one.

yeah besides the point about not being *that* facebook friender, i think most of this advice is pretty useless.

I studied abroad with so many people in this video… RANDOM.
I think the most resonant tips were the one about Facebook friending (I can still name the people who did that freshman year) and losing money from overdraft fees. I seriously lost like $400 in fees freshman year for not better monitoring my bank account, and there’s only so many times Customer Service at Chase will refund because you cry and sound helpless.
