Tonight, Intelligence Squared U Confessions from a holiday camp download.S. Debates is offering an opportunity to watch some high-profile names debate over the future of journalism, as if us bloggers didn’t do enough of that already. Guests will debate the motion “Good Riddance to Mainstream Media,” at the Skirball Center at 6:45 p.m., with a reception beforehand. Student tickets are only $12 ($45 for non-students).
As with all of ten IQ2 Debates, ABC correspondent John Donvan will be moderating. Supporting the motion — “new media is good!” — are renowned columnist Michael Wolff, Politico editor Jim VandeHei, and radio host John Hockenberry. Their opposition are more traditional journalists (as in, they like newspapers): Hearst’s Phil Bronstein, The Nation’s Katrina vanden Heuvel, and New York Times elite David Carr. To put it lightly, this will be a Wrestlemania for media geeks. Yes, that includes us.
This is the third IQ2 debate of the fall season (eighth of the entire year). The next debate will address Obama’s economic policies on Nov. 16, with guests including Mark Zandi and Eliot Spitzer. If you miss(ed) out, the debates are also on Bloomberg TV, NPR, and iTunes podcast.
