Yesterday’s WSN report that “all Bobst holding will be digitized” courtesy of Middle Eastern sugar daddy Abu Dhabi is incorrect. The entire 5.1 million volume collection is not, in fact, going to be available online, says The Library Journal. Rather, the “plan, pending more approvals, is to do some significant selected appropriate digitization projects,” said Bobst Library dean Carol Mandel, comparing it more to a “digital collection development” than large-scale digitization.
On the bright side, maybe people will stop being so paranoid about the far-fetched potential for Abu Dhabi to exert control over our New York Campus now. Just cause you buy a girl billions of dollars worth of stuff dinner doesn’t always mean you’re going to get lucky.
