In addition to the loss of free printing, it seems NYU is cutting costs by scratching out another beloved service to students – a sensible bus service.
Washington Square News reports that the five bus routes formerly in operation have been reduced to two, and NYU has not yet mustered up the guts to make a formal announcement.
According to the WSN article, routes A, C and D have disappeared. Route B that used to cover just the dorms in SoHo now caters to Greenwich Hotel. Route E doesn’t go to Union Square anymore, but does make a stop by 1st Ave. and 12th Street. If you live at the 13th Street dorm it is actually quicker to walk home from campus than anywhere on the new transportation map, which incidentally has not been updated yet.

It’s a good time to be out of NYU housing.

Who the heck takes the bus from the Union Sq. dorms to Washington Square? That’s just lazy and ridiculous as its a short walk. This really doesn’t seem like a big deal at all.

Chaz, when the weather is nice, the walk is not a problem at all. But I lived in 13th Street last year and the lack of bus service gets annoying in the colder months, even dangerous when there is ice on the sidewalks.
I think that people are more upset at the fact that tuition rises each year but services like free printing and bus service are being cut than about having to walk to class from Union Square.

Not cool NYU. When I was there, the new eco-friendly busses were all the admin could talk about.
Granted, walking to and from the closer dorms is a minor pain, but it was always the people who had large packages, groceries, weather problems, medical problems, or very late night transportation needs that needed these transports the most.
