*We’ll be doing a Summer Internship Hunt post for a handful of NYU schools over the next couple of weeks. Our first is Gallatin.
If you’re in-town for the summer and happen to be of the individualized type, I’m sure you’re trying to secure an internship for the May-August slot that will make putting up with the hot, sticky, city air worth it.
The good news? Lots of flexibility. The bad? Less help finding internships to apply to.
Because of the endless concentrations and career tracks (rumor has it someone concentrated in “Happiness!”), it would be impossible for Gallatin to offer a comprehensive list of applicable internships. Most Gallatin students I know find internships through academic department lists serves, recommendations from their primary advisors or their own research with Wasserman or the net.
The Director of External Programs at Gallatin, Faith Stangler, can help if you’re totally lost. Faith will suggest channels to search and help students look through the listings that she has in her office on the 6th floor of 715 Broadway.
Unlike some departments in CAS, in Gallatin you can get paid and receive credit, and the types of internships, number of hours and number of credits you take are much more flexible, which makes it easier to find a internship that fits in with your summer schedule.
Once you find a job, the process is easy. You’ll need to fill out forms to be signed off on by your primary advisor, Faith and your internship coordinator. The deadline for summer internship proposals is the first day of classes of the session but you have to be registered by the third day of classes of the session.
If you have any questions about securing a summer internship you should contact Faith Stangler. Her phone number is (212) 998-7376 and her e-mail is faith.stangler@nyu.edu.
