What’s Going to Happen at 1AM?

A large number of rather surly security guards won’t let any NYU Local reporters into Kimmel (though Adam Playford and a few of his minions are blustering about the lobby self-importantly). So we’ve waded through the growing crowds as they move the barricade “from the sidewalk, into the street!” pissing off cabbies and police people alike Management download. We asked them what’s going to happen at 1 am and here’s what they had to say:

  • “Judging by the number of vans, I’m thinking they’ll take them outside and there’ll be arrests.” -Phil Saunders, photographers who’s been outside Kimmel since 1pm
  • “I don’t think they’re going to use force, if they do, it’ll be outrageous.” -Rohan Joseph, Stern ’11
  • “I feel like everyone’s going to walk out really quietly and go home. Very uneventful” -Alex Haber, crowdmember
  • “They’re too cowardly to fight back physically, they’ll probably all just lie down and have to be carried out one by one.” -Overheard
  • “I think that all hell’s going to break loose.” -Matt Campbell, Steinhardt ’11

I was at Columbia in ’68 – I’m on the north side of wash sq right now, and I just heard the mounted troop go by, just like on Broadway back then – BE CAREFUL, they have no respect for life or limb

i hear nyu admin’s are on the scene handing out scholarships for bravery to the protesters! yey! i hear they are giving free hoodies and markers for effort! and j sex has 200 copies of the budget color coordinated and all.

zzzzzzzzzzzzz………..tuning out. i hope no one else gets hurt at this thing. hopefully nyu will organize a better walkout or show of strength for something more important, like an anti war movement in nyc down at the UN, or washington.

barack, what the hell are you doing in afghanistan and pakistan?! when are you pulling troops out!? i don’t hear that talk, and i should.
you are sounding more and more like your predecessor.
“afghanistan is winnable” ???????????? he said that TODAY everyone.

This Charlie guy tried to act all shocked when some of the protesters started shunning him. If you watch that riot video you can see his is being a complete dick to them. At one point he says jauntily, “Well now I guess this is the time when all these people get busted!” right to their faces. And then they all seem to walk away from him and he pretends like they are scurrying away. Meanwhile, he goes behind a table and curls up in the corner as they head to their barricade.

This guy is obviously a) an complete amateur b) a lousy reporter c) too biased, cynical and pigheaded to even get along with the ‘subjects’ of his story.

    Charlie Einsenhood is a JOKE.

arrest them, then PLEASE expel them! if you’re bothered so much by a unversity’s policies then why not just boycott the school and transfer?
