A group of NYU students were awarded a grant to implement Bike Share, a program that will make our campus a little greener, and maybe decrease the bad rap the expanding student population has earned from our neighbors.
The bikes will be stored at two locations: one at the Seventh street residence hall, also known as the “green house,” and the other in a bike parking lot by Tisch Hall. Students would have to reserve a bike online and then simply swipe their NYU ID card for a three-hour rental on week days and 6 hours on weekends. The 30-bike fleet will consist of single-speed Birias, and program coordinator Lindsi Siegmiller says the bikes will “scoop down in the front, so you can get on with a skirt or suit” without fear of flashing everyone around you.
According to an article published by NBC online, the students are unsure when the program will begin. They’re still working on the computer system, and considering that winter is just around the corner, it is probable the Bike Share won’t begin until the spring.

This sounds pretty excellent. I do wish, though, that they’d install more bike racks around campus, because I usually have to beat some bitches down to lock my bike.
