If you yearn for Ben Gibbard’s angsty, 30-year-old-adolescent warbling (and, you know, a better future for this country), register to vote. The college campus that registers the most youth voters for the November election will win a free concert by Death Cab for Cutie, along with various other opportunities for scholarships and Guitar Hero 2 equipment. As of now, NYU in second place, six registrations behind Belmont University.
The campaign is called the Ultimate College Bowl, and it is launched by Myspace, Declare Yourself, Why Tuesday?, and Head Count in an effort to increase the youth vote in the upcoming election. NYU has a pretty good chance of winning, considering our numbers, and the top six students most directly involved in registering the most voters will win $10,000 each. If the possibility of a terrifying political future isn’t reason enough to vote, this certainly should be.
UPDATE:
I just got this email from Barnett Zitron, one of the founders of the Ultimate College Bowl:
“Hi Nicole,
I thought you’d like to know that as cool as the Ultimate College Bowl is, you may find it even cooler that the two guys who put this project together, myself and jacob soboroff (from whytuesday.org) are NYU Class of ‘05. I went to Gallatin and Jacob went to CAS.
Go Bobcats!
Best,
BZ

Does it only count if you register Democrats? I feel like it would be funny and sad if Death Cab plays a sold-out show…for newly-registered McCain supporters.
