DON’T DISAPPOINT!!

Tom DeGroot
Oct 15, 2008 19:29

Ned: Anyway to get into the Sribble chat?

Tom DeGroot
Oct 15, 2008 19:29

Scribble even?

Ned Resnikoff
Oct 15, 2008 19:30

Afraid not, especially now that we’re officially kicking this thing off.

Tom DeGroot
Oct 15, 2008 19:32

Nevermind. I’ll comment the old school way down here.

[...] I have to admit I’m happy to be allowed to liveblog here but I miss my old digs: liveblogging for Ned Resnikoff at was amazing and they have a great operation going on. If you want to get anyone else’s perspective on tonight or politics in general, go there! [...]

How the hell is the thought monitor going off without a question being asked?

Liz Nehr
Oct 15, 2008 20:07

dude, no one calls it strong island.

Tom DeGroot
Oct 15, 2008 20:09

The line drops at the mention of Wurtzelberger. I guess funny German names are not viewed favorably by the undecided electorate.

Claire Brooks
Oct 15, 2008 20:13

i hate mccain. obama isnt a commi and he’s totally drilling this shit hard.

Claire Brooks
Oct 15, 2008 20:13

wait. did he just cut off obama? is this fool serious? and that smile was evil…

Tom DeGroot
Oct 15, 2008 20:18

He knows how to do all these things yet won’t tell us. He’s more secretive than Cheney.

Claire Brooks
Oct 15, 2008 20:22

Wheres biden? I want some biden attack doggishness right now.

Claire Brooks
Oct 15, 2008 20:26

great question….

Tom DeGroot
Oct 15, 2008 20:26

I wouldn’t have accused Obama of being associated with terrorists if he had just hung out with me!!!!!

Tom DeGroot
Oct 15, 2008 20:31

Joe the Plumber makes a comeback!

Claire Brooks
Oct 15, 2008 20:32

BOOOO YAHHH BITCH.

Tom DeGroot
Oct 15, 2008 20:33

McCain: STFU!

Claire Brooks
Oct 15, 2008 20:33

This is ridiculous. McCain’s whining about attacks on his health plan and Obama gets things like terrorist and hang him shouted out?

So bam for Obama throwing it out there. Because McCain just tried pulling some heart strings, and i have NO SYMPATHY for him at all.

Liz Nehr
Oct 15, 2008 20:33

JOHN MCCAIN stop interrupting! wait your turn! didn’t they teach you manners when you were growing up in the 1800s?

Claire Brooks
Oct 15, 2008 20:34

Dear McCain,

Reality check. There are racists at your rally. And they suck.

<3 Claire

Tom DeGroot
Oct 15, 2008 20:34

Obama didn’t say “Military Moms for McCain called me a terrorist”. Some asshole did.

Tom DeGroot
Oct 15, 2008 20:36

Ayers time baby!!!

Alexandra Hart
Oct 15, 2008 20:36

35 minutes in it’s officially a debate when we hear a nervous reference to the sanctity of veterans

Claire Brooks
Oct 15, 2008 20:41

yay. i want to see mccain support that trainwreck. he barely even acknowledges her presence.

Lily Q
Oct 15, 2008 20:41

That Ayers explanation was pretty well handled. Not quite sure why McCain brought up the question yet again right after though.

Lily Q
Oct 15, 2008 20:42

they know that she’s, well, ridiculous.

Tom DeGroot
Oct 15, 2008 20:43

They’ve gotten to know Sarah Palin?

….Really? How so?

Claire Brooks
Oct 15, 2008 20:43

Say it… come on mccain. say maverick. say it…

Tom DeGroot
Oct 15, 2008 20:43

There’s a large Gender split on Palin

Melissa Colorado
Oct 15, 2008 20:44

Todd Palin got a shout out!

Lily Q
Oct 15, 2008 20:46

Obama keeps doing that condescending (if adorable) chuckle thing. it’s making him look like a bit of an ass hole.

Lily Q
Oct 15, 2008 20:47

Ned, science is ungodly, no more money need be spent on that, let’s just put our faith in the almighty.

Lily Q
Oct 15, 2008 20:48

haha, yeah, why would it have to be safe? i mean, we’ve sailed navy ships, we’re men. i spit on your fear of “dangerous” nuclear power plants.

Tom DeGroot
Oct 15, 2008 20:53

He seems to be getting angrier. You wouldn’t like McCain when he’s angry

Lily Q
Oct 15, 2008 20:55

“the heartland” is such a depressing term. literally makes me sad every time i hear it.

Tom DeGroot
Oct 15, 2008 20:56

That last response for McCain was code for “Oh Fuck, I got nothing…. uhh…. uhhh…. IRAN!!!! TAXES!!!”

Henry Chan
Oct 15, 2008 20:56

5 million new jobs? I wonder where both candidates get these numbers. It always seems like they’re pulling them out of their asses.

Lily Q
Oct 15, 2008 20:57

call me stupid but i completely fail to see mccain’s point every time he talks about how terrible it would be for obama to negotiate with a government that runs contrary to our own. yeah, we don’t like chavez, but nothing will change if there’s no discussion.

Lily Q
Oct 15, 2008 20:57

henry, say something with enough authority and people will lap that shit up.

Tom DeGroot
Oct 15, 2008 20:59

To John: I admit I’d be slightly swayed if McCain started to get a little green glow in his eye and only responded with “McCain Smash!”

Tom DeGroot
Oct 15, 2008 21:00

Joe the Plumber is gettin’ another shoutout!

Henry Chan
Oct 15, 2008 21:00

$5k will get you shit in the health care system.

Lily Q
Oct 15, 2008 21:01

Lily Q
Oct 15, 2008 21:02

Obama, stop saying “folks.” it makes you sound silly.

Zane Brzezinski
Oct 15, 2008 21:04

I’m calling it.
The clear winner of this debate is Joe the Plumber.

Tom DeGroot
Oct 15, 2008 21:05

Oh the places you’ll go. Oh the people you’ll see

Liz Nehr
Oct 15, 2008 21:05

senator government? there’s a freudian slip for you.

Henry Chan
Oct 15, 2008 21:05

$5800 – $5000 = $800.

$800 is still a lot of money. Especially for those who have never had health insurance.

Tom DeGroot
Oct 15, 2008 21:05

Zane: Yeah so far Joe the Plumber is doing damn well.

Henry Chan
Oct 15, 2008 21:06

I don’t like it when McCain looks straight into the camera. It’s unnerving.

Melissa Colorado
Oct 15, 2008 21:09

I know I’m late on this, but in regards to the Colombia mentioning, President Alvaro Uribe has been very public with his bro-love for Bush. It’s sorta sad. Anyhow the idea that the U.S. Colombian Free Trade Agreement is essential to the US’s National Security is bullshit, unless you consider drug dealers terrorists. The sad truth is that a Colombia without drug-trafficking is very unlikely, whether you eliminate their paramilitary group, FARC, or not.

Lily Q
Oct 15, 2008 21:10

he looks like he’s made of wax. obama, on the other hand, looks legit when he’s starting us down.

Lily Q
Oct 15, 2008 21:12

courage and compassion to these young women so that they’ll be okay with giving birth to kids they aren’t ready or willing to have.

Melissa Colorado
Oct 15, 2008 21:12

CNN needs to pan a shot on Bristol Palin’s expressionless face NOW

Tom DeGroot
Oct 15, 2008 21:13

Obama should respond with a dead baby joke. Just to spice things up a bit.

Lily Q
Oct 15, 2008 21:13

such a comical face from mccain there.

Tom DeGroot
Oct 15, 2008 21:16

Wow. I was actually offended when he said “health” so damn sardonically.

Sruti Ramadugu
Oct 15, 2008 21:16

McCain needs to whiten his teeth.

dene chen
Oct 15, 2008 21:17

McCain is an asshole. He has been responding to everything that Obama has said derisively, while Obama is respectfully choosing to disagreeing with McCain. I mean, it’s ridiculous how condescending McCain is, but what’s great is that Obama is aware of how ridiculous some of McCain’s accusations are that you catch him smiling at the pure stupidity being uttered right next to him.

AHHHHH this is a frustrating debate!

Henry Chan
Oct 15, 2008 21:18

Make that $100k worth of debt. NYU is sucking me dry.

Lily Q
Oct 15, 2008 21:18

and there’s the whole make college affordable thing. is that even possible? seriously, the concept is great but $4,000 per year for hours of community service doesn’t make much of a dent.

Tom DeGroot
Oct 15, 2008 21:21

McCain: You voted against the GI Bill. I don’t think mentioning how soldiers should get educational benefits really stands up against your voting record.

Liz Nehr
Oct 15, 2008 21:23

pretty sure mccain can’t remember michelle obama’s name right now.

Henry Chan
Oct 15, 2008 21:25

Is it wrong that I laughed when McCain mentioned Palin and her autistic child?

Liz Nehr
Oct 15, 2008 21:26

I love that mccain is willing to focus on autism research which does NOT require stem cell research where he hasn’t mentioned research for down’s syndrome which does. pretty sure palin has children with both.

Henry Chan
Oct 15, 2008 21:27

Hah! Was that a snort from McCain?

Lily Q
Oct 15, 2008 21:27

mccain really thought he’d gotten away with some big coup on that voucher comeback. not so much.

Lily Q
Oct 15, 2008 21:27

if laughing at that is wrong, i don’t want to be right.

Melissa Colorado
Oct 15, 2008 21:27

Is there a prompter for McCain to block?

Tom DeGroot
Oct 15, 2008 21:27

Obama makes the final remark. I’m looking forward to this.

Liz Nehr
Oct 15, 2008 21:28

wait no, now I’m really confused. palin has one child with issues. but is it autism or down’s syndrome? whatever, it’s the least of our problems.

Henry Chan
Oct 15, 2008 21:30

Fundamental.

Liz Nehr
Oct 15, 2008 21:30

when I said down’s I meant down. and when I said issues, I meant special needs. and actually, I really do want to know if palin has a child with autism. because autism and down syndrome are not the same thing.

Lily Q
Oct 15, 2008 21:31

omfg, such a cute mommy line. (and by that i mean “wtf was that?

Tom DeGroot
Oct 15, 2008 21:31

Joe the Plumber ‘08!

Lily Q
Oct 15, 2008 21:32

the obamas could officially step on the mccains. game, set and match.

dene chen
Oct 15, 2008 21:32

haha the announcer for MSNBC said, Joe the Plumber has now replaced Joe Six Pack.

Henry Chan
Oct 15, 2008 21:33

Tom Brokaw has declared Joe the Plumber the winner!

dene chen
Oct 15, 2008 21:33

HAHAHA TOM BROKAW JUST SAID, “Joe you’re the winner.”

dene chen
Oct 15, 2008 21:34

I’m pretty sure it’s down syndrome, lily.

dene chen
Oct 15, 2008 21:35

sorry, i meant Liz.

Lily Q
Oct 15, 2008 21:35

it wasn’t me who asked but yeah, down syndrome. i’ve not heard about her having an autistic child.

Liz Nehr
Oct 15, 2008 21:37

exactly. so why is mccain referring to sarah palin’s autistic child?!?!?!!

Henry Chan
Oct 15, 2008 21:39

It’s a mistake. A pretty bad one too.

Sruti Ramadugu
Oct 15, 2008 21:41

Joe the plumber probably took a shot every time he heard his name.

Joe the Plumber
Oct 15, 2008 21:43

I like John McCain. He seems really nice.

Charlie Eisenhood
Oct 15, 2008 22:36

Joe, you only say that cause you got so damn drunk off those shots.
