Target Replacing Decrepit Kmart Near NYU?

An analyst from Deutsche Bank mentioned in The Times that it might be a perfect move for them. They are already planning a barrage of ‘bodega’ theme stores this Fall as part of their carefully choreographed ploy to get New Yorkers to swallow their tastelessly affordable pseudo designer furniture. Does anyone know whether Kmart’s lease is almost up? Has anyone been inside that Kmart for more than ten minutes?

I disagree. I once bought a Hannah Montana towel from this Kmart for my best friend Leslie and it was the best purchase I have ever made.

I was just in there because I had to get clothes hangers and folders and I waited in line for 15 minutes before I was checked out. Not because it was terribly busy, but because they are completely incompetent in there. Then when she was finished ringing me up she thrust the receipt at my so forcefully that the flailing ribbon of paper hit me in the face.

Target would be wonderful.

Woo site redesign!
Also, I love the KMart. I have bough everything from coffee makers to trash cans to socks there, and even when it’s really busy, checkout never takes too long. One time my checkout lady even answered a question I had about a problem–both correctly and with a positive attitude! GO KMART MAYBE I WILL FIND LOVE AT YOUR STORE.

If the Target will be attached to the 6 train like the Kmart is I will never, ever make it to class on time.

Kmart is perfect for those in case of emergency, last minute theme party buys. I found a powder blue track suit and dumb bells perfect for a grannies and trannies party (I was a Florida granny). I would be lost without Kmart

Too bad it’s not Wal-Mart. I fucking love that place.

Target in Astor Place - NO WAY. We can already go on the 1 train uptown and it’s right off the train stop - Marble Hill.
KMart has a great selection and price point for everyone - and I love the Martha Stewart Everyday - line they have, would hate to see it go for another mega box store like Taerget.

Oh, yes. Just take a quick trip on the train to Marble Hill. Practically walkable.

Marble Hill is quite a distance from NYU. There’s a closer Target Greatland in Jersey City, NJ near Hoboken Terminal, Holland Tunnel and Pavonia Newport (it’s easily accessible, minutes away with PATH train) - and the sales tax is just 3.5% because this location is in an Urban Enterprise Zone (UEZ).

There’s still another KMart location inside Penn Station, accessible from the street or underground concourse level, closer to the Amtrak Rotunda and LIRR tracks. It’s at 34th Street, between 7th and 8th Avenue.
