Proposed UC Requirements Would Diminish Minority Student Population

Best of the best 4 without warning download.10 AM” src=”http://nyulocal.com/wp-content/uploads/2009/12/Screen-shot-2009-12-08-at-11.09.10-AM.png” alt=”Screen shot 2009-12-08 at 11.09.10 AM” width=”351″ height=”227″ />What’s one way to deal with a floundering university administration, tuition hikes, and angry students? Oh, you know, just keep all the minorities out. Especially the Asians.

Basically, UC’s proposed eligibility requirement changes would discard guaranteed admission for students who finish high school in the top 10th and 12.5th percent of their graduating class. Also, you’ll no longer have to take any SAT subject tests to get in. Translation: kids who test really well in high school — a.k.a. Asians, because they are the supremely intelligent people that will soon take over the world — would be hurt by the changes.

When they ran a simulation to see how this would have affected the 2007 entering class of UC freshmen, the number of admitted Asians, Latin Americans, and African Americans plummeted. “The percentage of white admissions,” on the other hand, “would have increased significantly at eight UC campuses,” finally giving privileged white youth a leg up in American society.

The lesson here is that Asians of the future will either dominate American universities or be barred from entering them, pretty much. Konichi-what!

UPDATE: Oh my god, I am so stupid. (Don’t…don’t say anything to that.) I was gonna be all like “didn’t anyone read the fucking link that I posted that said that Asian groups at UC are protesting these proposed changes??” but then realized I never even linked to it in the first place. I’m sorry. Here’s the article, and where the “Asian thing” comes in—if you think it’s a stretch, then it’s not my stretch, ya dig?

I don’t know how I feel about getting rid of automatic admission, but eliminating the relevance of SAT scores is a good thing. I’m convinced that will actually contribute to diversity in the long run.

Think about it: Who does well on the SATs is inherently economically stratified. Not just because of who goes to schools that gear more towards the exam, but also because of who can afford SAT tutors, classes, the prep books, and multiple testing days. It’s a racket, and it has no place in college admissions.

how is any of that discriminatory to asians? Basically the UC system got rid of an arbitrary rule about percentages that you say supposedly benefited asians the most… now they got rid of that benefit.

Bigots! /sigh

@Chris: Nobody said anything about discrimination! Chris, look at me. I will never pass for a perfect bride…or a perfect blogger.

This is ridiculous. How is changing a rule about percentages the same as prohibiting minorities from attending? Chris is right. Josh this is a long stretch.

“Oh, you know, just keep all the minorities out. Especially the Asians.”

I guess I mistook snark for political commentary. But at least I’m not crazy :D maybe.
