true, very true. closing gitmo is a start, so let’s see what else barack does. the jury will be out for the first two years.

i guess my negativity is a result of the post bush “jesus i can’t believe he got away with overseeing these unlawful actions” haze. but i know it’s not just GW. gitmo has been around.

yeh read goodman’s interview with regards to rendition and the two jokers he scared up to be on his team. scared is the best word for it.

I disagree with your trivialization of the closing of Gitmo. Symbolically, it is an extremely important move. And I think that counts for a lot. That can’t be the only change to intelligence gathering activities, but it’s a strong start.

With 151,000 U.S. troops in Iraq, and 32,000 in Afghanistan, including 14,500 with the NATO-led coalition, and 17,500 who are fighting insurgents and training Afghan forces…I think it is safe to say the US military will be torturing folks in the middle east, and continuing to kill civilians in foreign counrties — aka collateral damage — for years to come.

Unless citizens stand up and stop it.
