Lest we forget, there were some other pretty important races last night. How did those turn out?
Proposition 8: The yeses are barely ahead, but nothing’s been officially been decided yet.
Minnesota Senate Race: Norm Coleman is also barely ahead of Al Franken (yes, that Al Franken), but it’s still up in the air.
Kentucky: Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell wins reelection.
Alaska: Convicted felon and President Pro Tempore Ted Stevens is just barely ahead of Mark Begich, but again, nothing’s been decided yet.
Virginia Pennsylvania (I’m an idiot): John Murtha wins reelection.
North Carolina: Senator Liddy Dole loses to Democratic challenge Kay “Godless Money” Hagan.
Minnesota: Contemptible smear artist Michelle Bachmann ekes out reelection.
Could it have been a better night? Yes, certainly. But all in all, I think it turned out pretty damn good. And we’re still waiting to hear about a lot of these things, including the final electoral vote tally for Obama. Missouri and North Carolina are both still up in the air, and if Obama snags either, I’m going to end up owing someone some money.
UPDATE: Forgot one of the big ones: In my home state of CT, the last Republican congressman in New England, Chris Shays, lost reelection to Jim Himes.

Oops. Lack of sleep makes me stupid. Fixed.

I literally laughed out loud when I saw that Hagan won North Carolina. Guess it’s about time the people of NC embraced their godless sides. Serves Dole right for playing dirty.

It’s also noteworthy that California’s Prop 4 was (as of yet unofficially) defeated. It would have required minors to notify their parents before getting an abortion, and it was opposed by doctors, women’s advocates, and mental health experts.

Prop 8 has passed.

It’s” Libby” Dole
No, actually, it’s not.

And San Francisco’s Proposition K, the decriminalization of prostitution.
