McCain Throws his Hands in the Ayer(s)

With the polls trending heavily away from McCain, his campaign has resorted to a barrage of attacks in a last-ditch effort to revitalize his campaign. An independent study found that “nearly 100% of the McCain campaign’s advertising was negative” last week. McCain and, in particular, Palin’s stump speeches have also been filled with jabs and increasingly sleazy insinuations about Obama’s judgment, character, and associations.

Once you cut through the angry rhetoric, however, the attacks are basically empty. One of the main talking points is Obama’s extremely tenuous association with Bill Ayers makes him a radical. What a joke. They served together on a community board. More importantly, NOBODY CARES ABOUT THIS. Does the McCain camp really think it can push the crumbling economy out of voters’ minds with this drivel?

The Rude Pundit (my new favorite blog) points out that the only reason McCain is pushing the Ayers association is that “it is the last desperate, craven move they can make to slow the Obama train before it smashes them like a herd of deer on the tracks at the wrong time.”

Best of all, Obama is now taunting McCain for not being “willing to say it to [his] face,” referring to McCain’s omission of Ayers attacks during the debate. You can bet that this is just going to piss off McCain even more, causing him to pull more ridiculous stunts, and further deteriorating any chance he has left of winning this election.

Bloody October: And Then Things Got REALLY Ugly | NYU Local

[...] Ahhhh, traditional journalism, bless your heart. Watch and be amazed as an anchor from noted Communist propaganda organ MSNBC tries to draw a false equivalence between screaming “KILL HIM!” at a rally and yelling, “I AGREE WITH YOU AND YOUR POLICIES!” I suppose it depends on the tone in which both are said. But look, the point isn’t that the Republican base is getting crazier and crazier–and my lord, are they ever–the point is that the McCain campaign is egging this lunacy on. [...]

Before we make a choice we may regret for the next four years, the accusations against Barack Obama should be carefully considered, as they are here.

Burr Deming:

No one needs to read the accusations because all 300,000,000 Americans are familiar with them. If they had any merit or basis in reality, one or many of those 300,000,000 Americans would have turned those accusations into indictments. They haven’t. You know why? They are simply a wingnut fantasy. John McCain himself has decided to stop pursuing the issue because he realized that he stoked up an army of nuts. McCain has now, rightfully, been forced to change his direction and get the Straight Talk Express back to talking about real issues. The army of nuts, however, keep on trucking despite his best efforts to ask them to stop. But you know what? Obama supporters want his nuts to keep trucking. Yep. By golly that’s right. The more the nut army goes crazy, the bigger Obama’s lead becomes. Look at the polls. They don’t lie. They are the reality here, not the wingnut fantasy accusations.

Sorry Burr. I should have read the link. You got me. I was a swing voter until all of this racial hatred came out, and now I’m 100% behind Obama. Racism has no place in American politics.
