The general consensus among the livebloggers of Friday night’s debate was that Obama had either barely eked out a victory or the two candidates had broken even. But the polling tells a very different story, and all in all it looks like Obama had himself a pretty good night. As Ygz says, this debate was McCain’s best chance at stopping the Obamamentum – but three days later, Obama’s lead is continuing to widen.
But I think everyone can agree that no matter who you thought won, that debate was really, really, unbelievably lame. Obama and McCain are both mediocre debaters, but neither one is bad enough that there was ever any danger of a game-changing flub–McCain in particular did an impressive job of holding his own despite forgoing debate prep to single-handedly fix our economy.
So yeah, it was a dull 90 minutes. Fortunately, this Thursday is the Vice Presidential debate, which we will, of course, be liveblogging here. Joe Biden and Sarah Palin are both two rhetorical trainwrecks waiting to happen, so we’re practically guaranteed at least one hilarious and/or mortifying gaffe. It’s going to be like liveblogging the season premiere of Curb Your Enthusiasm.
