The Opinion section is dead. Long live the National section.
I know what you’re thinking: What? Why? Well, simply put, there was no real reason for us to have an Opinion section. When you’re part of a new media enterprise that doesn’t think reporting the news and expressing an opinion are mutually exclusive propositions, what the hell does the Opinion section do? Every section is the Opinion section.
Anyway, that’s done now. Over. Fini. Submitted Opinion pieces will now go to their appropriate sections: stuff on the city for City, stuff on NYU for On Campus, and so on.
And what about all the stuff that doesn’t fit anywhere else? What about all those pieces on the election, or the economy, or whatever else?
Those go here now – at the brand spankin’ new NYU Local National section. But we’re also going to be trying something new, which is actually tracking the election instead of just occasionally commentating on it.
That means I’m currently working on putting together a staff of bloggers who can dedicate a couple hours of one day a week to tracking the news and writing posts describing the latest. If anyone’s interested, let me know.
Oh, and one more thing: if you check out the left column of the main National page, you’ll notice we have a blogroll now! There aren’t any good political blogs that exist in vacuums – the good ones are all active members of a community. To that end, you’ll find some friends I’ve made in our little corner of the blogging community along with some other big commentators we like over here. They’re all worth checking out.
