That there is the graphic of swing states I used in my initial prediction. But it turns out that the map isn’t strictly accurate. Indeed, it’s based on a fallacy. A fallacy, I say! Leave it up to NYU Journalism professor and NYU Local adviser Adam Penenberg to set the record straight.
Penenberg’s been working on TechPresident.com, whose contributors include former Deaniacs Zack Exley and Zephyr Teachout, and former Giulianiac (correct term?) Patrick Ruffini. One of the coolest features of the site, located right on the front page and devised by Penenberg and Personal Democracy Forum founder Andrew Rasiej, is this:
That’s a more accurate representation of the US electoral map, in which the states are sized proportionally based on how many electoral votes each one has. Click for a bigger image, and check out how the red portions of America don’t look so huge anymore compared to the blue states. This is particularly true with Alaska and Texas. A Texas of that size, you could probably get away with messing with.
