Day One of CMJ is behind us and, hopefully, our Tuesday guide made your life a little easier. The following days may appear overwhelming, as you attempt to strategically fit every band into your schedule—but remember to be realistic, even if that means selecting one band over another. Arrive early for buzzworthy showcases, plan ahead, and don’t over commit yourself.
Listed below are NYU Local’s recommendations for CMJ’s second day on October 16th.
1. Between the Buried and Me - 7:00pm – 8:30pm @ the Best Buy Theater
As a part of their headlining “Future Sequence Tour” and CMJ, the progressive-metal band Between The Buried and Me is stopping at the Best Buy Theater tonight. For their showcase, the band will perform their latest album, Future Sequence, from start to finish.
2. Schoolboy Q – 12:25am – 12:55am @ Webster Hall
Schoolboy Q recently played in Brooklyn with Kendrick Lamar and will return to NYC, tonight, at Webster Hall. Along with Lamar, Schoolboy Q has shared the stage with Wiz Khalifa, Mac Miller, and Snoop Dogg.
3. Tigertown - 10:00pm – 10:45pm @ The Raven
Traveling from Australia to New York, Tigertown has been working exclusively with NYU’s record label, Village Records. On Monday and Tuesday, Tigertown completed a recording session at Steinhardt’s James L. Dolan Recording Studio with Billboard documenting the journey. In addition to tonight’s performance, Tigertown will appear at the Rosenthal Pavilion (October 17th), Pianos (October 18th), and The Delancey (October 19th).
4. 194 Recordings: Showcase – 7:00 – 12:00 AM @ The Heath at the McKittrick Hotel
At ‘The Heath’ tonight, Steady Sun, Charly Bliss, BOYTOY, and Juniper Rising will support NYU’s on-campus label, 194 Recordings and the Clive Davis Institute of Recorded Music. The showcase is open to the public, but keep in mind that it is 21+.
