The vicious vixens of ABC’s hit show Revenge are back in a whole new prime-time slot this Sunday at 9 p.m., and we here at NYU Local are stoked. I mean, after the plane crash, drug overdose, ax fight and pregnancy revelation that occurred in the first season’s finale episode alone, how could we not be? Revenge is the perfect guilty pleasure, as we told you last semester, and we can’t wait for glaring and plotting galore to return to the Hamptons.
There were enough cliffhangers at the end of Revenge‘s first season to put a Lost finale to shame. In fact, there were so many that we need not one but two superfans to work through the wealth of questions that the show left us with. So here it goes. Feel free to speculate with us in the comments, and remember: When everyone you love is stolen from you, someone has to pay.
[Warning: If you’re a spoiler-phobe, proceed with caution.]
Did Victoria Grayson really die in that plane crash?
Ben Murray: No way.
Alex Bedder: It’s impossible.
BM: Even though a sneak peak of the season two premiere revealed that Sunday’s episode will kick off at a Victoria Grayson memorial service, there’s just no way that the writers would kill off network television’s reigning ice queen, especially after Madeleine Stowe was the only one on the series nominated for a Golden Globe this past year – and for Best Actress in a TV Drama at that.
AB: There’s also the question of whether or not Lydia Davis survived the plane wreck. Some slip-ups (spoiler!) in the press have implied she is a goner, but if that cockroach survived a fall from a penthouse apartment smack dab into a taxi cab, then can we really consider her out for the count? Hopefully.
Is Emily Thorne’s mom really alive? If so, who will play her?
BM: Little birdies have told us that the show has cast Jennifer Jason Leigh (Fast Times at Ridgemont High) to play Ems’ mom, so she’s either totally alive, or we’re in store for some serious flashbacks. I’m assuming the former. And Leigh seems perfect for the role, especially since she’s a former promising star who fell off the face of the Earth but is now making a solid comeback attempt – just like Stowe.
AB: Obviously Leigh is a great choice. We’ve seen her recently doing crazy family member really well on the last season of Weeds. But, I can’t help but think of all the other great options that could have worked for Momma Clarke. For example, what if the role was played by Patricia Wettig, who played Emily VanCamp’s mom (and flawless hussy) Holly Harper on Brothers and Sisters? We could have had a big ABC prime-time drama crossover happening!
Will Princess Charlotte still be a waste of space this season?
BM: From the looks of the sneak peak, Charlotte’s not only definitely alive – despite her recent pill-chugging – but she’s also spunkier this season. And yes, we were a bit bored of her whole Lindsay Lohan routine last season, but can you really blame her? She thinks that her father died a disgraced terrorist and her mother a lying skank. And think about it: when was the last time the girl hung out with a friend?
AB: She’s certainly appearing more feisty in rehab phase, so I think the question is how much of a help is she going to be? She could possibly team up with Ems and do some serious Mary Kate and Ashley Mysteries sibling investigative work, or she could go all Amanda Bynes on us again. I’m kind of hoping for the former, since the whole poor little rich girl routine is getting stale.
Who is Fauxmanda’s real baby daddy, if she’s even really pregnant at all?
BM: My gut’s telling that Jack… is not the father. Fauxmanda is turning out to be more conniving than the girl she’s pretending to be, so I wouldn’t be surprised at all if some dude at her strip club knocked her up. Also, she might just be pulling a Bree from Desperate Housewives by pretending to be pregnant. Her belly did appear out of nowhere.
AB: And remember, the last time we saw Fauxmanda she got whisked away by Emily’s mysterious Japanese mentor Satoshi Takeda. Those two were gone for a pretty long time… Is he the baby-daddy? If so, it has to factor into Takeda’s plan to keep Emily on the path to revenge. Jack is going to be so devastated when he is there for the delivery and she has an adorable – but mysterious - half-Asian baby…
Now that psychotic Tyler is definitely dead and Daniel and Jack are both tied up, will Nolan and Emily have love interests this season?
BM: I’d love it if Nolan had another gay hookup this season, especially since the show plays off his role as a single bisexual in such a progressive, casual way. Also, since he’s gotten rid of the awful Bieber hairdo, Nolan’s looking pretty good, so I’d say giving him a love interest is pretty feasible. And as for Emily, word on the street is that British actor Barry Sloane will be playing her new love interest. I hope he’s rocking the accent, because that’s always easy on the ears.
AB: A lot of casting reports are hinting that Nolan will actually be shacking up with a female biddie this season, a savvy and sophisticated Indian woman played by Dilshad Vadsaria (neither Frieda Pinto nor the girl from Bend it Like Beckham and ER). Yay for more diverse casting on television! But we all know that Prince Daniel and that brooding scruffy working-class guy are not out of the picture yet. Emily will probably have to manipulate the rich, vapid hunk at some point (maybe to get back at the awful, British social skank Ashley). And the point of the show is that we are supposed to be rooting for Jack and Emily to settle down and shuck oysters for the rest of their lives with a new golden retriever puppy.
So, are you prepared for another season of radical twists, lame soft-focus flashbacks and fierce death glares? Who knows who Revenge will burn by the end of the weekend.
