Playing Jazz Class Holds Final Performance

Playing Jazz, a Gallatin class (obviously), held its final performance at Drummers Collective last night. The theme of the night was “Blues and the Weather” and the music was sweltering hot! (see what I did there?) Two friends of mine, Boris Kachscovsky and Anna Weng (both guitarists), were members of the class and only had glowing reviews it. Professor Bill Rayner led the larger-than-average-band. It was composed of several guitarists, a bassist, a pianist, a keyboardist, a cellist, a saxophonist/floutist, and a harp player (harpo?). Although at first glance it seemed that there were too many instruments to make anything more than just racket, everyone played in harmony. The band played jazz standards like Girl From Ipanema, Summertime, and I put a Spell On You (with a particularly awesome vocal solo by Bennett Kleinman). An audio recording of “Fever” and pictures after the jump.
