What should you be doing instead of writing that paper? Well, unless you write for NYULocal and can spend time compiling lists for others’ potential amusement, you’ll have to settle for these mindless fun toys found on an intertube near you.
This one’s an oldie but goodie: FreeRice. It’s somewhat educational as well, since you’re answering mini-quizzes, but it’s supposedly for charity. And as Josh explained in his Earth Day post, we all like doing good when it’s convenient. Free Rice! You can pretend you’re studying.
Impoverished people like food, but I bet you do too. So, maybe you have a friend who likes to mix cherry pie with pizza pie, like I do. Is that a good idea? This website will help you out: Foodpairing. Also, if you like certain illegal drugs, maybe this site will help you out before you eat a jar of peanut butter and Easy Mac at the same time.
On another note, webcams are fun. It seems like everyone has an album on Facebook devoted solely to Photo Booth narcissism. Go here to make this narcissism just that much more fun. The best part is that you can see the most recent gifs made by other people, and one time it was some girl “licking” her “breast”, presumably for a boyfriend. Awkward, gross (in her case), and oddly fascinating, like you’re at a zoo.
Blah blah everyone knows about this but go anyway. Babelfish is a boon for language majors like myself, if you think poor translations are a boon. I just said boon.
Art! Awesomeness! Turn your pictures into little miniature scenes! Do it.
Remember sand art at the state fair? When I came to college, I realized not all states get into the state fair like Minnesota does, but whatever, go play with colors on this site.
This should occupy you for a while.

OMG SPORCLE. I’ve totally redeemed my shameless 7th grade geography bee loss.

Thanks gals, I wanted to include Sporcle but for the life of me could not remember what it was called.
Another great charity site is AIDtoCHILDREN.com. It donates money to
children in need through World Vision.
Check it out at http://www.aidtochildren.com

Thanks to Sporcle, I now know the entire periodic table, all the countries in the world, each color in the 99 crayon Crayola color box, the exact wordage of most Harry Potter spells, and every US postal code.
