Already one of the biggest bands of the year by default, Chris Martin and co. will be releasing the Prospekt’s March EP next week. The cornerstone of the 8-song EP is this remix of “Lost” which apparently has a video (above) and features Martin’s now frequent contributor Jay-Z in surprisingly solid verse about how hard it is to be famous. The video comes complete with crowd noise and quick-cut concert footage, except for Hov’s 16 bars, which he spits against a plain white backdrop.
Now, Kanye West is prone to hyberbole, but there’s one story of his that I’ll always remember. He tells of recording “Never Let You Down” from The College Dropout with Jay, and how when his mentor came into the studio, the video for R.Kelly’s “Fiesta” featuring Jay-Z was playing on the TV. Apparently, Jay went into the booth, spit his opening verse and told them to let the track play through, proceeding to plow right through the “Take ‘em to church” verse, dropping classics like “Every fourth quarter, I like to Mike Jordan ‘em.” Anyway, so he nails every line, leaves the booth and the video for “Fiesta” is still on. He’s that good.
Point being, I think if “Little Deuce Coupe” was playing in the studio when Jay went to drop his “Lost” verse, when he came out he’d probably still catch the second verse.
