Photo Gallery: Wall Street, Occupied

Protesters rally in the financial district. Photos by Egle Makaraite.

Occupy Wall Street started off as a protest movement without specific demands, a collection of grievances from discontented youth, left-leaning activists, and the stray Baby Boomer or two. The plan was to get 20,000 protesters to camp out in Lower Manhattan for months, and started last Saturday. Attendance was lower than expected by an order of magnitude, but the energy was pretty strong (even if the V For Vendetta masks made everything slightly ridiculous). At this point, a few hundred hardliners are still down there—but the real fun went down this weekend. Photo gallery after the jump.

What is your reaction to the NYPD response to the protesters, Mr Mayor?

Commissioner Kelly. What is your reaction to the justification of the NYPD response to the protesters?

    Shame on you.
