NYU Local Investigates the Four Loko Ban from NYU Local on Vimeo.
Just in case you weren’t bawling while reading Myles’ obituary on Monday, Four Loko will be banned in New York beginning December 10. While broke NYU students who happen to enjoy the “blackout-in-a-can” are crying foul, the new law places the largest burden on bodega owners, who have undoubtedly have had no trouble selling Four Loko on a nightly basis.
But the fine print of the State Liquor Authority’s ban only says that Four Loko can’t be shipped to distributors after early December. However, according to one bodega owner who just ordered 100 cases of Four Loko, bodegas can still sell the cans after that date, provided that they received the shipment beforehand. This leaves them with a difficult dilemma: stay out of trouble or stock up before the Four Loko Prohibition begins. Okay, maybe that’s not so difficult of a dilemma.
As Rachel Maddow pointed out yesterday, the FDA has recently been issuing warning to companies like Four that distribute beverages combining caffeine and alcohol. It seems like only a matter of time before not only we’ll have to really say goodbye to not only Four Loko, but also to its dear friends Joose and Sparks.

Can we do another one the night of December 9th?
Kenny’s appearance wins!
Killin’ it!
@Sara yes please.
There are so many things wrong with these stories about Four Lokos. Mainly that fact that they’re reporting how many under-aged drinkers are getting alcohol poisoning. The issue should be the under-aged drinking, not what they are drinking!! Also, I’m pretty sure that anyone who ended up sick, blacked out, or otherwise was drinking more than just a Four Loko. That being said…I am going to stock up on them and keep them in the house as party favors! Although they taste absolutely awful, and give me terrible jitters the next day, I don’t want to be told I can’t drink them, it should be my choice =)!
Thomas Jefferson wrote in the Bill of Rights that Americans had an unalienable right to Grape Flavored High Gravity malt liquor. Banning Four Loko is unconstitutional.
sparks hasnt had caffeine in it for like 2 yrs. It was the perfect drink. RIP.
