About an hour ago, a “manhole explosion has sparked a transformer fire” in front of a Radio Shack on 6th Ave between 19th and 20th Streets, according to FoxNY. So far, there are no reports of injuries.
Check out this piece on “How Exploding Manholes Work.” Sounds pretty physics-y and vaguely terrifying.
The ridiculous image is from Daily Intel.

I can’t believe no one was injured… it looks so intense! New York is a dangerous place, folks.
Another fun reason to never go outside ever again.
