Astor Place and Third Ave. Starbucks Is No More

2009_04_bucksshutter

Tragically, there are no longer two large Starbucks shops within a block and a half of one another on Astor Place. This shuttering is more than merely another reason for the dreadlocked denizens of independent coffee joints to rejoice and the rest of the NYU population to moan though Shrek the halls download. It is also a sad part of New York’s ongoing decline into the sort of place where uncomfortably similar looking coffee spots exist only on every second, or even third corner. God forbid.

It’s actually relocating to that new perforated steel Cooper Union building on 3rd ave and 6th st.

It just won’t be in visual sight anymore of the other Starbucks.

@Cooper Whew. I only walk alone at night if I can constantly see a Starbucks in my line of sight., so I guess I can still make it from the across-the-way location to the 2nd-and-ninth location if they relocate to CU.

@Madeline I don’t even drink coffee and the very thought of not having two of those behemoth Starbucks in my line of sight is feeling pretty tragic.

@ Lily Right? When are the assholes in this city going to stop worrying about their “jobs” and “mortgages” and start paying attention to the subtleties of this economic crisis?
