It’s The End of The World: NYU Local’s Official Bucket List

It’s December 18, 2012. This means that in exactly three days from now, we could all be dead. Although the world is ending, it seems as if more students are stressed out about finals than they are about being obliterated. Yes, finals are coming and so is the end of the world, which means that there is no better time than now to just say, “YOLO!”

What better way to celebrate the end of the world than by creating your own bucket list of tasks to complete at NYU by the 21st of December? You only have a few days to live, so why not spend those that time being adventurous and exploring the depths of your inner party animal? J-Sex will finally be getting J-Sexy; we know that much.  Read more…

Flurry Turns Five!

Last night, the NYU community took over the Central Park Wollman Rink for the fifth installment of Flurry, an event put on by the Inter-Residence Hall Council. With over 1600 students attending, the event proved that there is some type of community here at NYU.

This year’s Flurry included free ice skating, candy, five (count ‘em: FIVE) Housie Maguire-shaped cakes, “J-Sexy and I Know It” t-shirts (with proceeds going to the American Red Cross) and other types of NYU love. With the success of this event and the celebration of its 5th year anniversary, we decided to go behind the scenes and see what really goes down at Flurry.

Most Fashionable Stars Of 2k12: The Beauties And No Beasts

The holiday season is almost here, which means that it is finally time to start brainstorming what you want for holiday presents. Ideally, we would all love money for the holiday season, but that’s not any fun, so most people seem to ask for clothes instead. We always look at the stars to tell us what’s hot and what’s not in the fashion industry, so this winter shouldn’t be an exception.

Which celebrities aced the red carpets this year though and which celebrities flipped and flopped all over the runway? Although NYU Local does not have Joan Rivers guest writing for you today, we have a conglomerate of gay guys, which is basically the same as having Joan Rivers.

The only difference between the Fashion Police and us is that not only do we call people out for committing crimes against fashion, but we also take time to call out the basics and put them in their place. Read more…

Does Ke$ha’s Sophomore Album Live Up To Its Bold Title, Warrior?

We have long awaited for the return of the glitter queen Ke$ha. With the recent online leak of her sophomore LP, Warrior, we wondered if the Glitter Queen could live up to our expectations. It is also in question whether or not Ke$ha can compete with pop female singers such as Rihanna, who recently released Unapologetic. Earlier this year, Ke$ha gave us a taste of her new album by releasing the single “Die Young,” which skyrocketed to popularity.

Although she refers to her fans as “animals” and often has trouble completing a sentence in interviews without appearing to be on drugs, does Ke$ha have the sanity to get to the top of the charts with this album? Likewise, Ke$ha has also revealed that The Black Keys, Iggy Pop and members of The Strokes will feature on this release. Will these rock legend partnerships effectively help Ke$ha build success or only hurt her in the end? Read more…

The Ultimate NYU Mascot Deathmatch: Let The Battle Begin

When we’re not busy saving the world from natural disasters like Hurricane Sandy, the students of New York University do have a favorite hobby: creating school mascots. From a sassy thirty-something to a giant house that looks like it’s cracked out on Hayden cookies, the list of mascots here at our school is on the rise.

Therefore, to deconstruct our mascot competition, let us first name all of our mascots: Housie Maguire, Bobcat, Violets, Trailblazers, Bowery Bear, Pugsly da Pug.Which of these mascots is the best though? NYU Local decided to let them duke it out.

One Direction Deathmatch: Which Of The Boys Ended Up On Top?

There used to be a time when a Belieber was the most annoying person you could talk to. Well, as the world progresses, so does the fandom world, which is often a separate realm from reality, and it includes fanfiction, obsessive fans, and people who will photoshop you into any situation.

If you don’t know what a Belieber or a Directioner is, though, let me welcome you to the world of hyper-fandom. A Belieber is someone who is obsessed with lesbian pop singer Justin Bieber, while a Directioner is someone who has an unbearable love for the members of boy band One Direction.

One Direction members are like the plastics. They’re teen royalty, and Big Time Rush or any other basic boy band right now cannot even come close to competing with them. At NYU Local, it’s our goal to bring you groundbreaking news, so let’s start by discussing the most hard-hitting questions. Who is the hottest member of One Direction? Who has the best style? And can any of them actually sing?

Taylor Swift Is Actually Better Than You

It’s no secret that Taylor Swift is making moves in the celebrity world. With the recent release of her album Red, we thought it would be interesting to dissect some of her songs; however, instead of figuring out who the songs are about (most likely Jake Gyllenhaal), we decided to look at what the songs say about Taylor Swift.

Taylor Swift, or T Swizzle as we like to call her, is self-aware of the reputation she has. Some of you may ask, “What is Taylor Swift’s reputation?” Well, if you have been living under a rock or if your mind has recently been dedicated to trying to keep up with the Kardashians, all you need to know is that Taylor Swift is like the PowerPuff Girls, Shania Twain, and near-flawless diva all combined into one tall blonde girl. NYU Local Interviews The Genius Behind RealityTVGifs

Here at NYU Local, we love using GIFs more than nerds love dressing up for Comic Con. so we naturally decided to interview T. Kyle MacMahon. If you are not familiar with him, he is the face behind the popular GIF Tumblr website called RealityTVGifs.

The creator is a native of New Jersey, but has lived in New York City for the past six years. He is currently the Digital Designer for the Logo channel at MTV Networks.

Diva Deathmatch! Battle of the Hollywood Starlets and Wannabes

In Hollywood these days, the celebrity feuds are unfortunately becoming less and less important. It’s sad to think that people care more about the circumference of Kim Kardashian’s butt than about whether or not Paris and Nicole are still speaking.

Although it is 2012, NYU Local would love to bring back the old beefing days of starlets. Who remembers when Hilary Duff and Lindsay Lohan were in a supposed feud over Aaron Carter? And who remembers when Paris Hilton was in a feud with everyone? We do, because here at NYU Local, we love to focus on the important people of society: trainwreck divas. The media has picked up on some recent fights, including a televised altercation between Nicki Minaj and Mariah Carey. Consequently, we thought it’d be a good idea to put the various divas head-to-head in our Deathmatch series!
